A grandiose Hard Rock project conceived by ex PLASMATICS / DISCIPLES OF SOUL bassist JEAN BEAUVOIR, VOODOO X brought together American and German musicians in a group based both in Berlin and New York.
BEAUVOIR and guitarist TOMMY LAFFERTY had previously worked together on a projected post PLASMATICS solo album from BEAUVOIR. At least VOODOO X got as far as releasing an album, which included the track ‘A Lover Like You’, co-written by PAUL STANLEY (KISS) and JEAN BEAUVOIR. BEAUVOIR had previously written material with STANLEY for use by KISS. Breaking up the group, BEAUVOIR and LAFFERTY returned to the States. BEAUVOIR relocated to Los Angeles where he would form CROWN OF THORNS with ex SHALAMAR guitarist MICKI FREE and erstwhile CHIC and POWERSTATION drummer TONY THOMPSON. Despite a few false starts, CROWN OF THORNS would manage to achieve a firm following worldwide even without the backing of a major label.
