Under Fire found a solid middle ground between hair metal and AOR. The band's melodic rock sound was similar to bands like Giant, Bad English, Blue Tears, Bon Jovi, Tyketto and Von Groove. Flames is not at the same level as those bands' albums, but it's still a pretty decent melodic rock album. It's got some great guitar hooks, catchy choruses (Raise a Little Hell is a great example), a solid vocal performance, and a "heartland" vibe (see: Flames of Red White and Blue) that's kind of refreshing.
