Compared to Racer X's first album, Second Heat takes some of its focus away from Paul Gilbert's lightning-fast guitar playing capabilities and tries to showcase the band's abilites as a whole. Jeff Smith's singing is a little more tolerable on this record than the first, sometimes its even good. The song "Scarified" pretty much fits all of the noodling I can handle for a whole album into three minutes. Also includes a solid cover of "Heart of A Lion" by Judas Priest.
