2002’s Off the Beaten Path is album number three from Italian heavy/power metal band Mesmerize, which features one-time Time Machine vocalist Folco Orlandini. Musically, this is pretty standard power metal fare on par with Domine and early Nocturnal Rites. They cover all the bases – catchy melodies, driving rhythms, fantasy lyrical themes, but nothing here really stands out. Mesmerize is a competent enough band, but these songs aren’t terribly memorable.
