Artist : Rotting Christ Country : Greece Release : Non Serviam Year : 1994 Genre : Heavy Metal File Type : mp3 320 Info:
I enjoy some Black Metal but not all. Many of the earlier Black Metal
from Norway is just too primitive and scratchy in the production
department, and they held onto that for a lot longer than many other
groups. Rotting Christ does have a objectionable name which looking at
their lengthy history, was a name picked up in the earliest days of the
genre, and even though Rotting Christ changed their musical format,
decided to keep the name. However their music is the most accessible
style of black metal anyone could ever encounter, and has shown in over 2
decades of accomplishments that Rotting Christ is always cutting edge,
creative and innovative. After a couple debut-ish albums comes 1994's
Non Serviam. The recording and production is the perfect blend of black
metal style bad production and and absolutely clear instruments and
vocals. It doesn't have a perfect sparkly sheen of a production like
1996's Triarchy of the Lost Lovers. The instruments are flatter and a
bit more scratchy and there is no clear air space like the next album,
BUT every instrument is at the front, and perfectly listenable, which is
what I feel made this album so fantastic. The Fifth Illusion starts the
album off excellent with RC's trademark unmistakable riffing. Then
comes Wolfera the Chacal, which is quintessential Rotting Christ, and is
perhaps the greatest Black Metal song ever. Then comes the thematic Non
Serviam. This is just a powerhouse of a black metal album. Their next
album, Triarchy of the Lost Lovers is their masterpiece and I feel one
of the best extreme metal albums, but Non Serviam absolutely needs its
place right next to Triarchy. This is a must have.

Artist : Shadows Of Steel Country : Italy Release : Second Floor [Japan Edition] Year : 2002 Genre : Heavy Metal File Type : mp3 320 Info:
Shadows Of Steel is yet another Italian symphonic metal band that has
come along in recent years. These guys are not new to the scene though,
having released their debut album in 1996. Since then, they have
released a double mini-CD and in fact recorded this particular album in
1999-2000. Unforseen problems resulted in the release being delayed
until now, with only the single, Heroes seeing the light of day before
the release of this album. The lead vocalist, Wild Steel, performs
wearing a rather pointy version of a Phantom Of The Opera mask. This
mask-wearing gimmick was originated in the 70's with Peter Gabriel and
revisited again, briefly, by Fish from Marillion in the 80's. The band
also consists of Ice Reaven and Yackson, guitar, Steve Vawamas, bass,
and Frank Andiver, drums, previously with Labyrinth. Technically, this
band is very, very good. The guitar playing is top notch as is the
drumming and keyboard playing. They play a very fast, old Helloween
-like power metal with symphonic textures and some progressive elements.
Most tracks are very fast with very fast double bass drumming and
shredding leads.

Break
Down The Walls is the first fully comprehensive collection from the Shy
canon and covers the bands entire career from their 83 debut album,
Once Bitten, Twice Shy right up to the present day. Disc 1 gathers
together a selection of tracks from the bands first three albums and
also includes the bonus track, All On You which was recorded at the time
of the bands debut but only later surfaced on the CD re-issue in 98.
Disc 2 continues with tracks from the Brave The Storm album from 85
before venturing into a selection of demos and two tracks from the
Welcome To The Madhouse album from 1994. Following an acoustic treatment
to the track, Young Heart, we round-off the anthology nicely with
tracks from Shys more recent studio albums and include two from 2001s
Unfinished Business and two from Sunset And Vine which was released
earlier this year.
