Every song on this album is very good, typical Annihilator-type metal
sounds accompanied by axeman/vocalist/bassist Jeff Waters, who handles
all instruments except for this drums on this record. Some of my
favorite tracks off this record are "King of the Kill", "Annihilator",
"Bad Child", and the superb ballad "Only Be Lonely". Let it be said that
I'm not one for slow songs, but "Only Be Lonely" is simply fantastic,
and hey, its ANNIHILATOR! So all fans of the band should embrace this
album, and for people who are looking to get into this band, this isn't a
bad album to start with.

The album starts off brilliantly. Annihilator have been known to make a
great first impression, introducing each of their albums with sizzling
hot riffs, surprisingly good song structures and enough energy to fill a
lifetime's supply of Red Bull. No,that isn't an exaggeration. 'The
Trend' pretty much sets the standard of the entire album. Scything
riffs, explosive solos and melodic guitar licks courtesy of the
incredible talent of Jeff Waters dominate this album. In fact, even
before the vocals begin in any of the songs, there is at least one solo
that will introduce itself to you, and you can bet your high horses that
every one of those solos is different. Whether it's the ultra fast
fretwork of 'Ambush' or the slight nod to NWOBHM on 'The Other Side',
Waters just never lets up on his performance at all. It is probably him
who has been keeping the chemistry of the band from dissolving over the
last two and a half decades or so.

Tricks combines live versions of hits from the band's first three
studio albums with early demos and rarities from back in the days when
frontman Jeff Waters was toiling away in his basement playing just about
every instrument like a heavy metal reincarnation of Prince. There are
not one but two stereo-scorching, foot-to-the-floor versions each of
"Alison Hell," "Phantasmagoria," and "Gallery." Bag of Tricks is proof,
also, of how seriously Waters took his image as a one-man guitar army,
with mile-a-minute solos, barn-burning riffs, and everything louder than
everything else. Tricks is a good showcase for the band's influences
and its range: "Live Wire" wears its fondness for AC/DC on its sleeve;
"Gallery" is a reminder of their early flirtation with death metal; and
"Fantastic Things," with its melodic bent, is as close to spitting
distance of hair metal as Annihilator ever came.

Over the years, headbangers have learned that lineup changes are an
inevitable part of Annihilator. The band's lineup is likely to change
from one album to the next, and the Annihilator lineup that you're
enjoying today may very well be gone tomorrow. For other bands, all
those personnel changes could be a problem, but leader/founder Jeff
Waters usually knows what he's doing -- and his hands-on approach serves
Annihilator well on All for You. Some might argue that Annihilator
isn't really a band -- that Annihilator is really an ongoing solo
project for Waters, who is very much in the driver's seat on this 2004
release. True to form, Waters wears many hats on All for You; in
addition to writing all of the material, he serves as bassist,
guitarist, producer and arranger. Assistance comes from drummer Mike
Mangini (known for his work with Steve Vai) and Annihilator's new lead
vocalist Dave Padden, who shows himself to be a welcome addition to the
band on Waters' material (most of it forceful thrash metal with some
alternative metal moves at times).

Set The World On Fire features an all new lineup, and one that would
produce just this one album. Joining Jeff Waters, the album features
Aaron Randall on vocals, Neil Goldberg on guitar, Wayne Darley on bass,
and Mike Mangini playing drums on most of the tracks. As Jeff Waters is
often the only common factor between the various Annihilator albums,
it's not that productive trying to compare them. Aaron Randall has good
vocal range, and sings both fast and slow songs well. He has a sense of
melody, but can also bring an edge to his vocals. Waters' guitar tone
can be harsh, but it's softened and more processed on this album, which
tends to complement Randall's voice, and allows it to be more easily
heard particularly on the softer numbers.
