Word on the street was that Kory Clarke & Co. were so fed-up with
Geffen Records' lackluster $upport, that they decided to record two
records at once...The "art/experimental" record would go to Geffen to
satisfy contractual needs & the "commercial" record would go to any
number of major record companies who desperately wanted to sign Warrior
Soul. "Chill Pill" is that art/experimental record that was supposedly
going to be a bad product and end their relationship with Geffen.
Well...despite
a lot of people's opinions that this was W. Soul's worst disc, it's
actually very good. As is just about anything that K.C. puts out. The
front & back cover feature only Kory Clarke, while the interior has a
few shots of the other band members. Was this supposed to be a
statement? A foreshadowing of the future? Not sure. But it is HIS band
& the guy does what he wants.

The Space Age Playboys is the fifth album by the band Warrior Soul
released in 1995. It was first released in the UK on Music For Nations
in 1994. The combination of Kory Clarke's acidic lyrics and new
guitarist XFactor's (aka Gene Poole, aka Alex) punk-tinged buzz-tone
created a fresh new sound, dubbed Acid Punk. The British influence of
XFactor's hard-driving guitar gave Clarke what might have been the
perfect backdrop for his brilliant rants.

Upon reading the liner notes that accompany this collection of Warrior
Soul's unused demos and outtakes, one is struck by the severe
bitterness of their author, bandleader Kory Clarke. An unrelenting
political activist, Clarke was a true punk at heart whose gravest
mistake was positioning his band within the reigning heavy metal fashion
trends of the early '90s, rather than pursuing the destructive
post-punk ethos closer to his heart. A prolific songwriter (as proven by
this extensive collection), Clarke was equally capable of gripping
social commentary ("Last Decade, Dead Century," "American") and
pointless utopian ramblings ("5 Ways to the Gutter" and the two hidden
tracks at album's end). Some of which may have seemed revolutionary when
written but now sound like Bart Simpson waxing philosophical. The
quality of the material contained herein varies wildly, but for every
two or three throwaway tracks, Warrior Soul still offers a
semi-compelling nugget like "NYC Girl" or "Turn On." These are outtakes
after all. For fanatics only.

titles ever for a rock record. And Kory Clarke & Co. back that title
up with one of their best efforts.
There are 12 blistering
trax, 3 live bonus cuts (this is the '06 reissue on Escapi Music), and
enough dirty rock n' roll to make your ears bleed. Not as political as
"Last Decade Dead Century." Not as metallic as "Drugs, God & the New
Republic." Not as experimental as "Chill Pill." Like a good lover, this
record is just right!
'Love Destruction.' 'Blown,' 'Punk
& Belligerent' and 'Ghetto Nation' are all heavy, electric and
dynamic. The sounds on this record make you wanna brawl at the local
dive bar, make love to your old lady and set the world on fire. All in
all, another masterful release from the band that shoulda had it all and

This CD is very very good. Old school sounding Warrior Soul with
crystal clear production. Kory Clarke's raspy vocals make it sound even
edgier and definitely more punk.
The tracks Pigs, Fourth Reich,
Burning Bridges, Motor City, Bad News and Shes Glaswegian all sound as
if they could have come straight after the 'Salutations' CD or Space Age
Playboys. I love these song and could put my Warrior Soul files on my
media player to 'Shuffle' and you would never know they didn't fit in
the bands catalog. That is how good it really is. They sound great and
revamped. The energy is there. So if you like the 'Soul, pick it up. No
brainer. The quality and sound are excellent and it rocks hard.
