Having just recently listened the debut, full-length from OPERATIKA, it?s hard not to compare the fourth album from LUNATICA, ?New Shores?, to that album. Both are Power Metal bands with Gothic and Melodic Metal flourishes; both have female vocalists; and both are firmly in the NIGHTWISH ?Oceanborn? mold of the of the genre. However, despite the many similarities, there are also some key differences. LUNATICA reside in more mid-paced, mellower territory, while OPERATIKA are speedy and double-bass driven. That?s not to say that ?New Shores? is a plodding or boring effort, it?s just more evenly paced. While the majority of the effort is mid-paced, LUNATICA show no fear in speeding up with double-bass runs of their own (hear the chorus of ?Two Dreamers?, for a good example), or slowing down for emotional ballad moments.
