Artist : Dream Theater
Country : USA
Release : Master Of Puppets
Year : 2002
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Dream Theater, arguably the world's premiere progressive metal band, started a tradition a few years ago of covering classic albums during certain tour stops. The band would play a set of their own material, take a break, and then cover one of their favorite albums in its entirety. So far the band has covered Iron Maiden's The Number of the Beast, Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, and Metallica's Master of Puppets.
Master of Puppets is an extremely important metal album, and while it isn't always evident amidst all of Dream Theater's sprawling progressive rock songs, it was definitely a major influence to the band when they were starting out (and later on, if Train of Thought is any indicator). I think Dream Theater does the album justice with this performance. The whole thing is a bit of a stretch for vocalist James LaBrie. His vocal style has little in common with James Hetfield's, so this isn't one of his better performances. Poor Jordan Rudess must have felt like the odd man out, as Master of Puppets is a keyboard-free album. Still, he managed to put his stamp on some of the songs, which made for some interesting interpretations of these classic songs

Artist : Dream Theater
Country : USA
Release : Live Scenes From New York
Year : 2001
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

The live versions of their songs sound so much richer and intense when performed in concert. As an added bonus, the band includes new extended sections and snippets from other songs into their set list, which makes for an awesome experience. Besides the flawless song selection, the sound quality and musicianship are the best I've heard on a live recording, let only one that spans three discs. John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy prove to be great producers as well as great musicians. There's so much energy on this, I don't know where to begin. It is truly the best live album I've ever heard, period. Everybody should own a copy, but get the studio CDs first to become familiar with the songs

Artist : Dream Theater
Country : USA
Release : Live At Budokan
Year : 2004
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

A treasure-trove for Dream Theater fans, Live at Budokan presents an entire three-hour performance at Tokyo's famed Budokan arena on April 26, 2004, along with a bonus disc rich in supplementary material. Disc 1 finds the metallic progressive-rock quintet at its awe-inspiring best, plowing through its catalog of dramatic epics and jack-hammer instrumentals, including five of the seven songs from 2003's Train of Thought. Disc 2 features an extended drum solo from percussionist extraordinaire Mike Portnoy; gear tours from guitarist John Petrucci and keyboardist Jordan Rudess (fascinating for lay people and downright revelatory for musicians); and a half-hour documentary on DT's 2004 stint in Japan punctuated by tantalizing snippets of band rehearsals. The shooting and editing for the concert are a music lover's dream, with lengthy shots that linger on the performances of individual band members. Disc 2 takes this even further with a multi-angle sequence of the 12-minute "Instrumedley."

Artist : Dream Theater
Country : USA
Release : Greatest Hit
Year : 2008
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Here's comes Dream Theater with their first greatest hit collection. At least it's not another live set. I guess in between studio albums, this just makes sense. While this is geared to the first time listener to capture the sound of this remarkable group, it still has a few elements for the die-hard fan. The remix's are certainly the key here if you want to see how they are polished up. The one unreleased track 'To Live Forever' would be the reason to buy this if you don't already have a studio mix of it. While the remix's are great, one has to wonder why they chose those songs and maybe not several more from their next couple of albums. I think 'To Live Forever' is included because it is LaBrie's welcome into the band. The song that should have made it onto this collection is 'The Way It Used to Be'. But it's not here and one has to wonder why. Plus I don't understand the logic behind the edits of songs like 'Solitary Shell'. Taking it to the edit form just kills the song overall.

Artist : Dream Theater
Country : USA
Release : Graspop Festival 2002
Year : 2002
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

For the annual gift of 2003, instead of going to the vaults, Mike Portnoy chose to make available a soundboard recording of the 2002 Graspop Festival show. On July 6th 2002, Dream Theater shared the stage with Slayer, Machine Head, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford and Biohazard on the main stage of the Graspos Festival.
With a very heavy presence of metal acts on the stage, Dream Theater had a tremendous task ahead of them – they had to prove that they were not only a progressive band, but also a metal band, something the audience of the festival might not have been aware of. The set list was (to that point) the most heavy set list Dream Theater had ever had.

Artist : Dream Theater
Country : USA
Release : Four Degrees Of Radio Edits

Mike Portnoy instead proposed to the fan clubs to have an exclusive preview of the upcoming CD “Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence” – with four radio edits from the album as the tracks on the CD. Mike Portnoy provided the audio recordings, while the fan clubs designed the cover art.
The CD was pressed in Netherlands, with 7619 copies. It is currently out of print. It has never been re-released.

Artist : Dream Theater
Country : USA
Release : Dark Side Of The Moon
Year : 2006
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

This is one of several "official bootlegs" that Dream Theater released, which include Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Metallica's Master of Puppets, Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast and Deep Purple's Night in Japan. First thing I should note about all these albums is that they are all performed LIVE. For some that is a huge turnoff, as it is for me. However, all of them come across very well. They all try to relive the original with more involved technique at times, but they really don't stray far from the original. Overall, some of the best cover albums I've heard.

Artist : Dream Theater
Country : USA
Release : Black Clouds And Silver Linings
Year : 2009
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

This album's a musical and emotional rollercoaster, but most of our albums are,' Mike Portnoy says of Black Clouds & Silver Linings, Dream Theater's tenth studio album and second Roadrunner release. Black Clouds & Silver Linings marks another milestone on Dream Theater's iconoclastic musical journey,
which began two and a half decades ago and now encompasses a hugely impressive body of music that's established the durable progressive metal outfit as a one-of-a-kind creative force with a fiercely devoted international fan base. The new album - produced by band members Mike Portnoy and John Petrucci, who also serve as the group's main lyricists - offers a vibrant manifestation of the world-class musicianship, vivid lyrical scenarios and ambitious, multi-leveled
compositions that have established Dream Theater as a uniquely compelling creative force.

Artist : Black Sabbath
Country : UK
Release : Vol. 4
Year : 1972
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

THE BAND: Tony Iommi (guitars), Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Geezer Butler (bass), Bill Ward (drums).

THE DISC: (1972) 10 songs clocking in at approximately 43 minutes. The Warner Bros issue has 2-pages of liner notes and no artwork to speak of (basically the cover artwork and song titles inside). The remastered version is now considered an import from Castle Communications (1996)... this one has the digitally remastered sound from the original master tapes, as well as the "faithfully restored artwork" - 10 pages including all band photos that the original vinyl had, song credits and lyrics. I got lucky and found a used copy of the remastered version for a fraction of the cost.

Artist : Ramones
Country : USA
Release : Pleasant Dreams [Expanded & Remastered] & [Japan Edition]
Year : 1981
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

The record does seem to be forgotten and dismissed by most fans, even though it contains two absolute classics: "The KKK Took My Baby Away" and "We Want the Airwaves." While the former remains one of their signature songs that could convert anyone into a devotee, it's the latter that really saw the band doing something special, with a slower but forceful tempo and Johnny playing that eerie melody that put a nice spin on the basic A-F-G chord sequence they had run into the ground. Even though Johnny most certainly did not want the airwaves and did not care what the airwaves thought of his musical choices, he played it like he meant it, with a mean but melodically assured Joey belting out the band's manifesto that almost feels more like a plea. Plus, they unknowingly wrote a perfect fit for the movie Airheads, proving that they were always head of their time, even if it was for a low-grade comedy that bombed just like Pleasant Dreams.

Artist : Paradise Lost
Country : UK
Release : One Second [Japan Edition]

One Second is Paradise Lost's first album recorded in digital format. Two songs were written and left out for this album are "The Hour" & "Slave" have not been released on any of the reissues of this album, but are on the second version of the single "One Second". The song "Mercy" has been alternately covered by Orphaned Land, on multiple releases, but the main recording session of the song was for The Calm Before the Flood.

Artist : Glitter Magic
Country : Brazil
Release : Bad For Health
Year : 2012
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

“Bad For Health” by GLITTER MAGIC is clearly ahead from this time and contains influences that weren’t there yet back in the 80s, giving them a Heavy Metal depth sound at the same time. On the other hand, some things are just timeless. Great guitars, bass and drum work can be timeless, but so can some voices inside a song be. That also goes for the singer Rhee Charles who was able to add some kind of TESLA vibes to some of the songs with his voice that sounds familiar at some points, but different and new on other. But he’s clearly not alone. To make an album like this, team work is needed and that’s how they sound, like a team.
