If you miss the good old hard rockin' glory days of Skid Row and Great White, then this disc will more than satisfy! Mr. Hyde were a quartet from the gulf coast of Florida. The lineup was as follows: Curtis Hatfield - lead vocals and guitars, Dan Young - lead guitars and vocals, Dave Meehan - bass and vocals and Tim Kamak - drums and vocals. They only released this self-titled effort in 1993; even though the rest of the USA was drowning in grunge, Florida bands and video outlets remained faithful to the 80's styled hard rock(some of you may remember "Metal Masters," a show that aired all of the videos that MTV passed up).

'Bite The Bullet' is an often dramatic affair laced in an undercurrent of blanketed keyboards. From the wistful keyboard introduction complete with wind storms, helicopter effects - it is AOR as we best remember it. The guitar solo from Sabo brings back reminders of Brad Gillis in his early Night Ranger days.. the dive bombing technique a pleasure to hear again. 'When The Axe Falls' as the song title suggests, is slightly heavy-handed, though the keyboards are ever-present. So too is 'Waiting In Vain' - the album finishing on an upward note.

Formed in the spring of 1989 in Hollywood, CA by Sean Gypsy Doll (vox), Eyajo Gypsy (keys) and Surfer Dan (guitars), the trio were joined by drummer Brian Elle and later bassist Brandy Vogue. The band consists of Mikael Erlandsson on lead vocals and keyboards, Andy Malecek on guitars, Jamie Borger on drums and Nalle Pahlsson on bass. The album starts with "In A Perfect World". This is a 'classic' LAD rocker with a huge melody and a catchy as hell chorus line! "Nine Lives" has an inspired riff, a very good harmony and Mikael Erlandsson passionate performances. The chorus is once again memorable. "Is This Just Another Heartache" features some more 'modern' AOR elements and it's the album's, so far, most commercial tune! In "Merry-Go-Round" we have a catchy rocker while "Golden Cage" is the highlight here! An awesome melodic hard rocker with an amazing melody that sticks in your mind from the start and makes you wanna whistle it for days! Perfect! "All I Can Think Of" is another commercial track with a nice rhythm. "Megalomania" and "The Last To Know" are both superb melodic pieces with catchy chorus lines and solid guitar work. "Angel Eyes" is heavier and features Andy Malecek's superb guitar skills! "We Never Said Goodbye" is a mid-tempo 'romantic' rocker with a relaxing melody. "Waited A Long Time" is a Japan bonus cut. A nice track! The last track, "Don't Let Love Fade Away", is a huge ballad! A very emotional track and Mikael Erlandsson really shines on here. Amazing performance!

Despite the adversity, progress continued to be made on the third Boston album. A tape of one of the songs, "Amanda", leaked out of the studio in 1984. The song became the lead single when Third Stage was finally released on September 23, 1986.
The album and lead single "Amanda" both went to #1 on Billboard, and subsequent singles, "We're Ready" and "Can'tcha Say" were Top 10 and Top 30 respectively.[9]
The group headed off on tour to promote Third Stage in 1987 and 1988. Third Stage was played in sequence in its entirety during the shows, with expanded arrangements of some cuts. For the tour the group was joined by Doug Huffman and David Sikes, both of whom stayed with the band into the mid-1990s.
The CBS case took seven years to run its course, and in April 1990 Scholz won. A jury awarded him millions in unpaid royalties and punitive damages.

Formed in Phoenix, Arizona, the band, which consisted of Jim Gillette (vocals), Jorge DeSaint (guitar), Todd Chase (bass) and Michael Lean (drums), decided to relocate to Hollywood and released a four song EP. Shortly after it’s release Gillette departed the band for a solo career (and to later form Nitro) while Bret Michaels look-a-like Stevie Rachelle took over on the microphone. Tuff toured steadily for three years before finally landing a major label-recording contract, however the timing was unfortunate. Just as their first single, “I Hate Kissing You Goodbye,” was roaring up the MTV charts, the music industry closed its doors to glam metal bands in favor of the grunge trend. Tuff became one of the forgotten bands among the grunge movement and was promptly dropped by Atlantic records.

By 1993 both Chase and Lean had left the group to be replaced by Danny Wilder and Jimi Lord respectively. They toured for a short time before Wilder walked away and Jamie Fonte was brought in for the last version of Tuff. Fist First (an album later renamed Religious Fix when three new tracks were added) would be the band’s last studio effort. In 1995 Tuff called it a day.

Rachelle continued on with a solo career, playing in bands such as Motley Priest. By 2001 a revamped Tuff emerged and made waves with the tongue-in-cheek rap metal parody “American Hair Band” which appeared on The History Of Tuff. DARK SKY have been founded as a school band in the very early 80’s in the South German city of Rottweil. Financial problems of their record company at the time made a release of their completely finished debut album during the late 80’s impossible and the band more or less caught it a day. After a couple of line-up changes, DARK SKY seriously returned to the scene at the end of the 90’s and signed a record deal with Malaysian label Life Records. The official debut album “Believe It” was recorded in the following time and brought the band lots of success in South East Asia in 1998. In the year 2000, this album also saw the light of day in Europe, now being signed to German label Goodlife Records. Shortly before the start of the recordings for album No.2, “Edge Of Time”, guitarist Ashes left the band again and was replaced by another former band member – guitarist Steffen Doll – who definitely left a brilliant stamp on his comeback album. “Edge Of Time” was released in Autumn 2002 once again on Goodlife Records. In the beginning of 2004, the band started to rehearse and pre-produce new song material for the next album. In August 2004, DARK SKY signed a record deal with German based label AOR HEAVEN. The studio recordings for “Living & Dying” finally were finished at the end of 2004 together with producer Markus Teske (VANDEN PLAS) at his Bazement Studios near Wiesbaden, Germany.

He has also contributed his vocal talents to Arjen Lucassen's Star One project. C'mere til I tell ya. The two musicians are good friends, with Lucassen contributin' guitar parts to Swanö's Nightingale project. Story? Shooting Star put out some of the best midwestern rock (read all-American rock firmly rooted in the blues) much in the same vein as Kansas in their less symphonic numbers. In fact the inclusion of a violin in most of their songs coupled with their similar regional origins prompted many comparisons to Kansas. But Shooting Star has their own sound and vision and nowhere is it materialized better than in Burning. Lyrically and musically this album is top notch. Highlights are the title track - which they combined with Theme in their live show of the time, to great effect, Winner which is a staight ahead rocker but with prominent violin, giving just so slight a pop/progressive feel, Dreams, and Reckless. They were sort of combination of Kansas and Journey, if you can imagine such a thing. In my opinion, and the opinion of numerous friends that were all into Shooting Star at the time, this is next to their First record as their best.
