This album has a beautiful blend of powerful emotion, melodic and
quality music, heartfelt lyrics, and excellent vocals. This is an
amazing album!

Shooting Star put out some of the best midwestern rock (read
all-American rock firmly rooted in the blues) much in the same vein as
Kansas in their less symphonic numbers. In fact the inclusion of a
violin in most of their songs coupled with their similar regional
origins prompted many comparisons to Kansas. But Shooting Star has their
own sound and vision and nowhere is it materialized better than in
Burning. Lyrically and musically this album is top notch. Highlights are
the title track - which they combined with Theme in their live show of
the time, to great effect, Winner which is a staight ahead rocker but
with prominent violin, giving just so slight a pop/progressive feel,
Dreams, and Reckless. They were sort of combination of Kansas and
Journey, if you can imagine such a thing. In my opinion, and the opinion
of numerous friends that were all into Shooting Star at the time, this
is next to their First record as their best.

Good rock music with good vocals along with a great message in their
songs!!!!! Van Mclain can still play a mean guitar, don't get it twisted
people he ain't too old yet, nor is the rest of the band!! I don't
think we should expect that this is all we will hear from this great
band!!! I truely believe that the only thing bad about this band is,
"that they have never received the recognition they truely deserve"!!!!!
They are one of the best of all time!!!

Hang On for Your Life is a 1981 album by the group Shooting Star. The
song Flesh And Blood featured a violin solo, an unusual sound in an
up-tempo rock song. American AOR radio stations embraced the record; the
songs Hang On for Your Life, Hollywood, Breakout, and Are You on My
Side along with Flesh and Blood, all received airplay.

The re-vamped Shooting Star was coming off their greatest chart
success with the single "Touch Me Tonight", but it didn't seem to help
sell the follow-up album It's Over Now. Shooting Star was attempting to
cash-in on the success of 80's hard rock with songs such as "It's Not
Over", "Rebel With A Cause" and "Get Excited". Of course the obligatory
ballads like "We Can't Wait Forever" and "Blame It On The Night" were
also included.
The sound on It's Not Over is very similar to
Foreigner, as new vocalist Keith Mitchell is reminiscent of Lou Gramm.
The musicianship and songs are very good throughout this album of well
crafted AOR. Shooting Star continued to toil in obscurity for years,
never receiving the recognition they deserved, but It's Over Now remains
a great album and gets two thumbs up!

It's really puzzling that a double-disc compilation by a band that had
scarcely a "hit" could be incomplete. That Shooting Star should have
been nearly as big as their '80s superstar contemporaries is debatable,
though there's little doubt the quality of their music was comparable,
if sometimes inconsistent. They mostly get their due with this
collection which includes almost every radio hit and key album track,
though it misses "Flesh and Blood" and "Do You Feel Alright", one of
their hardest, catchiest rockers.

1999 digitally remastered reissue of their 1982 album and third
overall.10 tracks. Recorded at the storied Colorado studio Caribou
Ranch, III Wishes captures this killer Kansas City sextet in a holding
pattern, where the rootsy vocal of Gary West transmogrifies into Steve
Perry's soaring croon. III Wishes music CDs Even the usual expert
musicianship resembles a certain Bay-Area phenomenon. III Wishes songs
Journey boardsman Kevin Elson shouldn't shoulder all the blame. III
Wishes album Sure, Shooting Star deserves a piece of the AOR profit as
much as any act, but the group is too talented and honorable not to make
music on their own terms. "Do You Feel Alright" seems a bit too
knuckleheaded from a band with deep spiritual leanings III Wishes CD
music. "Couldn't Get Enough" keys into the passion of previous outings,
but the trite chorus comes off forced. Shooting Star managed to work
around clichιs before, but the boys can't affect the listener if their
hearts are not in the proceedings. By the last cut, "Whole World
Watching" (with Chicago-ish keys), it's obvious Shooting Star wants to
please too many people.

it's a shame that not too many people even know that this album is
available.it deserves more attention. this disc ranks right up there
with all the other excellent albums that these guys put out.I JUST WANNA
ROCK has some of the best lyrics that i have heard in a long time{all
the lyrics from that song are actually song titles from the past 30
years]i fell out of my chair listening to this.get this disc soon before
it becomes unavailable.
