Info:

After twenty-plus years in the music industry, you would think OBSESSION would have turned the corner for home, wreaking havoc and pitching a flamethrower in the middle of your eyes. Back in 1983, they released their first demo with nine tracks- and I am sure Mike Vescera thought success was imminent with OBSESSION. Vescera took great measures as he etched his legacy in music, starting with OBSESSION and scaling the cliffs with other successful bands such as Loudness and Yngwie Malmsteen.

Country : USA
Release : Marshall Law
Year : 1984
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

So begins the lesson according to Obsession, a five-piece from Connecticut. Their four-track EP on Metal Blade is just what the above says, full of crushing dual guitar breaks, 100mph guitar solos all played at a fast furious speed similar to Slayer and Metallica. ‘Only The Strong Will Survive’ opens the record with guitarists Art Maco and Bruce Vitale battling it out until the end. ‘Hatred Unto Death’ complete with FX opening is next up, a straight grinding riff helped along by well placed claps of thunder. Its ballad style helps to show off vocalist Mike Vescera’s talent and of course the song finishes in typical style with a Judas Priest-like solo.

Artist : Obsession
Country : USA
Release : Methods Of Madness [Reissue]
Year : 1987
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Vescera reformed OBSESSION in 2002, made a comeback in 2003, and is back in 2006 with the same lineup that appeared on Vescera's solo release, "The Altar". "Carnival of Lies" is the band's fourth full-length CD, and this could be the magical one that breaks the camel's ass. The CD features swift-moving guitar licks, with crunching solos by John Bruno and Scott Boland, and guest appearances by Joe Stump and Robert Marcello. The bonus track 'Judas' really shreds, (being the only tune that each guest guitarist contributes). 'Carnival of Lies' has to be one of the best classic metal releases of 2006. Its pure metal riffs are reminiscent of Judas Priest, and the vocal power reminds me of Mark Slaughter mixed with Rob Halford.

Info:

Obsession is a metal band from the US, formed in 1982 when they debuted on the Metal Massacre 2 compilation (Metal Blade Records). Metal Blade went on to release their ep Marshall Law in 1984, and then Obsession put out two albums on Enigma before disbanding in 1989 (Scarred for Life and Methods of Madness). Obsession reformed in 2004 and released Carnival of Lies on Mausoleum Records in 2006 and began writing Order of Chaos in 2009.
I would characterize the sound from Obsession as later-era Rainbow/Deep Purple if the band had two guitarists of equal caliber as Ritchie Blackmore and if Joe Lynn Turner had a voice more like Ronnie James Dio. Granted, not the best description, but hopefully you get the idea. As a band, each member has quite a resume. Guitarists Scott Boland (MVP) and John Bruno (X Factor X) trade solos in an incredible fashion, not relying on pure speed and tricks like so many guitarists today, but showcasing some great emotion and feeling in their playing that is really lacking in many similar bands today. Vocalist Michael Vescera has a voice that literally was made for this style of music and could be used as an example of what vocals in this style of metal should sound like.
