Femme
Fatale fell apart shortly after returning from a British tour in 1989,
and Lorraine Lewis appeared with the hard rock single "Chains" on the
soundtrack of "Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead" (posted here). Erik
Levy was the bassist with Blackeyed Susan ("Electric Rattlebone" posted
here) and a multi-instrumentalist.
The duo became born-again
Christians, resulting in a short-lived marriage and residence in Mobile,
AL, and the release of this Mercy album on Broken Records. Mr. Levy
proves to be quite a producer as the sound shimmers and the bass
pulsates without being excessive; and, of course, Lorraine always sounds
good.
Anyone wishing to relive the Femme Fatale and Blackeyed Susan
hard rock experience is advised to ignore this release as the album is a
complete departure from either of their previous works. It is
predominantly CCM AOR with an atmospheric and sometimes slightly
alternative feel. Recommended for those inclined to the AOR and softer
music styles and, like me, those who are obsessed with all things
Lorraine.
Lorraine moved to Seattle shortly after, and has since
released a harder modern rock album, the 2000 selftitled "Snowball"
(posted here), and a country-flavored pop/rock album, the 2002
selftitled "Lorraine Lewis" (posted here).
Suncity Records signed
Femme Fatale in 2009 for the release of its unreleased album, Lady In
Waiting. The album was written and recorded in 1988 (the single of the
title track is posted here). Sadly, Femme Fatale guitarist Bill D'Angelo
passed away following a heart attack in the autumn of 2005.
So, what
is Lorraine doing now? She has relocated to Los Angeles the past few
years and is in a band called L.A. Nookie, with Share Pedersen
(ex-Vixen), Lisa Leveridge (ex-Courtney Love band Hole), Jeff Bowders
(Paul Gilbert) and Alex Kane (LSD), which opened at The Key Club in
support of Ratt for their "Infestation" album release party on April 20,
2010.
