Artist : Rouen
Country : UK
Release : Young For A Day
Year : 1987
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 128

Info:

Think of The Alarm with a little more synths, and you've got this fantastic ignored band, who also have a splash of Simple Minds in there for good measure (most noticeable on the vocals at times). Most of the songs on this collection from 1987 are power pop tracks, with rhythm guitars, driving bass guitars and rich synth textures filling in any gaps. Melodic, loaded with hooks, this is some great 80s stuff.

Artist : Roger Daltrey
Country : UK
Release : One Of The Boys [Remastered]
Year : 1977
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Digitally remastered reissue of the 1977 album from Who vocalist Roger Daltrey including bonus tracks. Calling on a wider circle of musician friends, this album, his third solo release, features musical assistance from John Entwistle (The Who), Jimmy McCulloch (Wings), Rod Argent (Zombies/Argent), Alvin Lee (Ten Years After), Eric Clapton and Mick Ronson amongst others. Features 'Giddy', a song penned by Paul McCartney.

Artist : Roger Daltrey
Country : UK
Release : Daltrey
Year : 1973
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Roger Daltrey's first solo effort, "Daltrey", features eight songs written by Leo Sayer and David Courtney, and another two by Adam Faith and David Courtney, and one "bonus" track ("There Is Love"). This is an introspective album revolving around joint themes of loneliness and alienation. While the songs stretch their emotional sensibilities to the point where they could have lapsed into melodrama, they are saved by the sheer honesty and piercing emotional expressiveness of the lyrics. In the opening "One Man Band" we find Daltrey proclaiming "I'm a one man band, nobody cares or understands", which sets the emotional tone for the following nine tracks.

Artist : Dwight On White
Country : USA
Release : Dwight On White
Year : 1979
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 192

Info:

According to the legend, Dwight Twilley met Phil Seymour in 1967 at a theater where they had gone to see the Beatles' A Hard Day's Night. After the film they immediately went to Twilley's house to start writing and recording. The two continued the partnership over the next several years, calling themselves Oister and recruiting another part-time member, Bill Pitcock IV, on lead guitar. After developing their sound in their homemade studio, "the Shop," they decided to take a stab at professional recording and headed out to Nashville, though they ended up stopping first at the legendary Sun Studios. Jerry Phillips (Sam's son) was impressed enough to team them up with former Sun artist Ray Harris, who introduced them to "the Sun sound," roughing up their Beatles-obsessed style a bit and creating a unique and endearing sound.

Artist : Dwight Twilley
Country : USA
Release : Blueprint
Year : 1979
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Twilley as a solo act, released Twilley for Arista in 1979 and Scuba Divers for EMI America in 1982, and found success again with Jungle in 1984, when he scored his second hit with "Girls." Wild Dogs went unnoticed on its 1986 release by CBS Associated Records. In addition, Twilley recorded an album in 1980, Blueprint, that remains unreleased and contributed one track to the 1992 Wayne's World soundtrack, "Why You Want to Break My Heart." In 1993, DCC released The Great Lost Twilley Album, which collected a fraction of the "hundreds" of unreleased songs Twilley and Seymour recorded in the early, ill-fated days. Two newly recorded songs appeared on the best-of collection XXI (The Right Stuff) in 1996, and in 1999, Twilley released both another rarities collection, Between the Cracks, Vol. 1 (Not Lame Archives), and his first new album in 13 years, Tulsa (Copper). In 2001, Twilley released The Luck (Big Oak), an album he had actually completed in 1994. The seasonal EP Have a Twilley Christmas (DMI) appeared in 2004, followed by Twilley's ninth studio album, 47 Moons, in 2005.

Artist : Cher
Country : USA
Release : Take Me Home/Prisoner
Year : 1979
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

These two albums are actually quite good. Take Me Home especially. From that wild cover photo to the discofied grooves inside this album rocks. And yeah, it has a couple slower songs, 3 to be exact and they are, in my opinion, (take that for what it's worth) some of her best. Does this sound dated today, sort of. Take Me Home, Wasn't It Good and Say The Word all have disco strings and beats, but if you liked it then, you'll like it now.

Artist : Ramones
Country : USA
Release : Pleasant Dreams [Expanded & Remastered] & [Japan Edition]
Year : 1981
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

The record does seem to be forgotten and dismissed by most fans, even though it contains two absolute classics: "The KKK Took My Baby Away" and "We Want the Airwaves." While the former remains one of their signature songs that could convert anyone into a devotee, it's the latter that really saw the band doing something special, with a slower but forceful tempo and Johnny playing that eerie melody that put a nice spin on the basic A-F-G chord sequence they had run into the ground. Even though Johnny most certainly did not want the airwaves and did not care what the airwaves thought of his musical choices, he played it like he meant it, with a mean but melodically assured Joey belting out the band's manifesto that almost feels more like a plea. Plus, they unknowingly wrote a perfect fit for the movie Airheads, proving that they were always head of their time, even if it was for a low-grade comedy that bombed just like Pleasant Dreams.

Artist : Ramones
Country : USA
Release : Rocket To Russia [Expanded & Remastered]
Year : 1977
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Next to their debut album, this is my pick of The Ramones' best work ever. With the losses of Joey, Dee Dee, and Johnny, it's sad to think The Ramones are a band of the past, but when you listen to works like "Rocket To Russia," you can say "they left an enduring legacy" without sounding contrived and melodramatic.
I love the opening songs on Rocket to Russia because you hear such energetic merriment packed with lyrics of the celebrated misfists: the proud declaration that "cretins wanna hop," followed by the seemingly innocent enthusiasm over hitching a ride to Rockaway Beach on a sunny day---without mentioning that Rockaway Beach is actually one of the grittiest, toughest, meanest beach towns in the country!
I love that we get a solid dose of unmistakable Ramones' lyrics in songs like "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" and "Teenage Lobotomy," and then receive the greatest cover of "Do You Want To Dance" ever recorded. No revamped punk lyrics, just the most powerful homage to oldies rock & roll you will ever hear, done in that high-octane Ramones' spirit. This song is the prime example of punk rock & classic rock meeting, morphing, and totally emerging into one another. Sounds corny, hmm? True, though.

Country : UK
Release : Once Again [Remastered]
Year : 1971
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

This CD is the band's second album with bonus tracks and remastering. Shows a different way of those later albums, where the band plays with a guitar and drums more present and less melodic songs. The songs are well done, there's nothing to lose. Maybe, "Mocking Bird" is the best song with highlights also for "Song For Dying" and "Lady Loves". No fan of the band can fail to know this work.

Artist : Aphrodite's Child
Country : Greece
Release : It's Five O'Clock [Remastered]
Year : 1969
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

If you enjoyed 666, the final album from Aphrodite's Child, you will be put in a big shock when you hear their previous effort, It's Five O'Clock, which was released in 1969. This was their second album (debut was End of the World/Rain and Tears from 1968, which Vangelis was reported with using Mellotron, despite his dislike for them). What you won't find is dark, gloomy prog rock here, but more like psychedelic pop, not unlike the debut album from Genesis, From Genesis to Revelation (released the same year).

Artist : Aphrodite's Child
Country : Greece
Release : End Of The World [Remastered]
Year : 1968
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

In the late 1960's Greek Band Aphrodite's Child unleashed their debut to the world sans one of their original members; Guitarist Silver Kolouris was temporarily out of the band due to military service, but the band comes off here as if they have their whole compliment of personnel, Bassist/vocalist Demis Roussis adding guitar parts where necessary. Vangelis ("Chariots Of Fire" fame) is the band's multi - instrumentalist, focusing on keyboard related instruments, and the drum/percussion parts are provided by Lucas Sideras.
