Artist : Junkyard
Country : USA
Release : Tried And True
Year : 2003
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

In 2003, that great, under-appreciated Los Angeles by-way-of Austin band, known as Junkyard, released a six song e.p. on Heat Slick Records. It features songs by every member of the band, both current & former. "Waste of Time," the title-track, and "Holdin' On" come from their '93 demo-session releases, "Joker" & "XXX." "Old #4" is in the same vein as their classic song "Simple Man," which shows up on this record in acoustic form. But, by far, the best track on this disc and the reason for buying this record has got to be "Fight." It has become one of my favorite Junkyard songs of all time. Chris Gates' dirty & bluesy guitar riffs are gasoline powered & David Roach's vocals are fantastic. And all Junkyard fans know how good Roach's lyrics & word-play can be.

Artist : Reo Speedwagon
Country : USA
Release : This Time We Mean It
Year : 1975
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

This is one of the few REO albums that I had never picked up or heard, so decided to give it a try recently. It was the last album of the Mike Murphy years with the band and although an ok effort, is nothing spectacular. The album was executive produced by Bill Szymcyk who is probably best known for his work with The Eagles. The influence shows as the band cover the Henley / Frey composition “Out Of Control” and many of the choruses and song production sound very similar to The Eagles, especially on tracks like “Candalera”. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but comes across a little odd for a Midwestern meat and potatoes rock n roll band. There are a lot of REO albums that I would purchase before this one.

Artist : Roadmaster
Country : USA
Release : Sweet Music [Remastered]
Year : 1979
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

The story of the American band Roadmaster starts in the mid seventies in Indianapolis in the state of Indiana.
In 1977 the band released their same titled debut album on the recordlabel Village Records. The music on this LP was a first introduction to the ‘Pomprock’ they were gonna make on the next albums. The line-up of the band didn’t change from their debut to their last album.
Their debut counted 10 tracks that mostly had not much in common with ‘Pomprock’, but the last track on side-B of this LP showed some ‘Pomprock’ that would become their trademark on their next albums. That song was titled “In the light”. In the beginning this song has a pure ‘Pomprock’-feeling with some spectacular keys a la TOUCH and an instrumental part of 2 minutes, later it turns out to a great aor/pomprocker.
Most of the rest of their debut was filled with a mixture of melodic 70’s hard rock&roll, boogie-rhythms and a bit progressive rock. The pomprockinfluences can only be heard in a couple of songs. But the harmonyvocals were already there, only the musicstyle was a bit simple 70’s rock. There were many references to the early material of REO SPEEDWAGON, who also came from the midwestern United States.

Artist : The Runaways
Country : USA
Release : The Runaways
Year : 1976
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

The Runaways were originally hailed as a manufactured band due to Kim Fowley's involvement. However, their eponymous debut album soon proved their worth as musicians. With Joan Jett on rhythm guitar, Sandy West on drums, Lita Ford on lead guitar, Jackie Fox on bass and Cherrie Currie on lead vocals, "The Runaways" (1976) includes tracks such as the snarling "Cherry Bomb" and the brilliant "American Nights" prove the Runaways rocked with the best of them - and with an average age of 16!! "Cherry Bomb" became an FM classic and propelled the group into stature alongside the Ramones and others of the era.

Artist : The Runaways
Country : USA
Release : Queens Of Noise [Reissue]
Year : 1977
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

The second album from the girls that turned the heads of the post punk era with the all-female rock band. Originally released in 1977, this album was hailed as a pop metal pinnacle for the band. Includes tracks like "I Love Playin' with Fire", "Take It Or Leave It" and the ballads "Midnight Music" and "Heartbeat" this album was seen as a concept album of sorts, about the roller-coaster ride of being a young band in decadent Hollywood. With production by Fowley and Earle Mankey (ex-Sparks guitarist), this is a glittering, driven rock album from the original girl power band with Joan Jett on rhythm guitar, Sandy West on drums, Lita Ford on lead guitar, Jackie Fox on bass and Cherrie Currie on lead vocals

Artist : The Runaways
Country : USA
Release : Live In Japan
Year : 1977
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

"Perhaps the very best from an era of classic rock live albums. Includes essential tracks 'I Wonder Where the Boys Are' and 'All Right You Guys', not on the studio LPs" Robert Coyne, Rock, the Rough Guide. Originally not released in the UK or US, Live in Japan was recorded in 1977 during the girls sold out arena tour! The Runaways had become genuine superstars in Japan and this album boasts superior sound quality (by '70s standards) and explosive, uninhibited versions of "You Drive Me Wild," "Cherry Bomb," "California Paradise," and other hard rock pearls. With the line up still the same, just before Jackie and then Cherrie were to leave the band the girls were on top form, making this one of the best live rock albums of the 1970s! Except for a handful of bootlegs, Live in Japan is the only documentation of The Runaways on stage!

Artist : Roger Daltrey
Country : UK
Release : Daltrey
Year : 1973
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Roger Daltrey's first solo effort, "Daltrey", features eight songs written by Leo Sayer and David Courtney, and another two by Adam Faith and David Courtney, and one "bonus" track ("There Is Love"). This is an introspective album revolving around joint themes of loneliness and alienation. While the songs stretch their emotional sensibilities to the point where they could have lapsed into melodrama, they are saved by the sheer honesty and piercing emotional expressiveness of the lyrics. In the opening "One Man Band" we find Daltrey proclaiming "I'm a one man band, nobody cares or understands", which sets the emotional tone for the following nine tracks.

Artist : Dwight On White
Country : USA
Release : Dwight On White
Year : 1979
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 192

Info:

According to the legend, Dwight Twilley met Phil Seymour in 1967 at a theater where they had gone to see the Beatles' A Hard Day's Night. After the film they immediately went to Twilley's house to start writing and recording. The two continued the partnership over the next several years, calling themselves Oister and recruiting another part-time member, Bill Pitcock IV, on lead guitar. After developing their sound in their homemade studio, "the Shop," they decided to take a stab at professional recording and headed out to Nashville, though they ended up stopping first at the legendary Sun Studios. Jerry Phillips (Sam's son) was impressed enough to team them up with former Sun artist Ray Harris, who introduced them to "the Sun sound," roughing up their Beatles-obsessed style a bit and creating a unique and endearing sound.

Artist : Dwight Twilley
Country : USA
Release : Blueprint
Year : 1979
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Twilley as a solo act, released Twilley for Arista in 1979 and Scuba Divers for EMI America in 1982, and found success again with Jungle in 1984, when he scored his second hit with "Girls." Wild Dogs went unnoticed on its 1986 release by CBS Associated Records. In addition, Twilley recorded an album in 1980, Blueprint, that remains unreleased and contributed one track to the 1992 Wayne's World soundtrack, "Why You Want to Break My Heart." In 1993, DCC released The Great Lost Twilley Album, which collected a fraction of the "hundreds" of unreleased songs Twilley and Seymour recorded in the early, ill-fated days. Two newly recorded songs appeared on the best-of collection XXI (The Right Stuff) in 1996, and in 1999, Twilley released both another rarities collection, Between the Cracks, Vol. 1 (Not Lame Archives), and his first new album in 13 years, Tulsa (Copper). In 2001, Twilley released The Luck (Big Oak), an album he had actually completed in 1994. The seasonal EP Have a Twilley Christmas (DMI) appeared in 2004, followed by Twilley's ninth studio album, 47 Moons, in 2005.

Artist : Arena
Country : UK
Release : Pride
Year : 1996
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

This is Arena's best progressive rock work. Later albums are great, but tend more toward pop (although not quite exactly pop for those of you who may be scared away by the term). Empire of a Thousand Days and Sirens are classic prog. The a capella Crying for Help is very well sung.Whereas their first album, Songs from the Lions Cage, is very good, this album, Pride, is not. In fact, it's not even close. All of Arena's other albums are much better than this one. There are a few somewhat redeeming moments on this album that can be found in the songs Crying for Help 5 & 6, Medusa, and Sirens. However, your money will be better spent on their latest album, Contagion, which is excellent.

Artist : Cher
Country : USA
Release : Take Me Home/Prisoner
Year : 1979
Genre : Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

These two albums are actually quite good. Take Me Home especially. From that wild cover photo to the discofied grooves inside this album rocks. And yeah, it has a couple slower songs, 3 to be exact and they are, in my opinion, (take that for what it's worth) some of her best. Does this sound dated today, sort of. Take Me Home, Wasn't It Good and Say The Word all have disco strings and beats, but if you liked it then, you'll like it now.
