American hard rockers Nevada Beach kicked off their (brief) career in 1990 with this self-titled EP. This is kind of an odd release from the Metal Blade label, which, even in the `80s, didn't do much in the way of barroom-style rock n' roll.
Nevada Beach was not only an anomaly on the Metal Blade label, but they also stuck out in the sea of spandex and hairspray that was the late `80s rock scene. The band's "meat and potatoes" approach owes more to bands like AC/DC, Nazareth and the Angels (who Nevada Beach covers here) than Motley Crue or Van Halen. The EP kicks off with a faithful (and totally upbeat) rendition of the Angels' "Marseilles," and chases it with four original rockers, all of which make great barroom anthems. Down n' dirty guitar licks, rough, raspy vocals and innuendo-laden lyrics keep this EP from being very original, but they do make it a lot of fun.
