Bedlam (originally known as Beast when it formed in 1972) was a British hard rock band featuring singer Frank Aiello (from Truth), guitarist Dave Ball (from Procol Harum), bassist Dennis Ball (formerly with Long John Baldry), and drummer Cozy Powell (formerly with Jeff Beck). They made one self-titled album produced by Felix Pappalardi (producer of Cream, member of Mountain) in 1973, before breaking up in 1974.
This band should have been every bit as big as Led Zeppelin. The signs were all there ; a moody & magnificent blues rock guitarist of the highest calibre in the shape of Dave Ball (from Procol Harum) a rock steady, thunderous bassist - Dennis Ball (formerly with Long John Baldry)- the vocals of a cockney banshee Frank Aiello (from Truth) and on the drums Mr Cozy Powell. The 1973 debut ‘Bedlam’ album remains a classic. But, what came before? This 2 CD set tells the story :Disc 1 contains early demos and out takes with Ace Kefford,Dave Pegg etc.Disc 2, contains the only complete version anywhere of the legendary 1974 New York City FM live broadcast recorded at the end of a lengthy Black Sabbath tour. An essential piece of full-on seventies rock!
