Doc Trinket- Plutonium Playground (1995) is a melodic hard rock release from Canada that is a favorite among the CD collectors, if for no other reason than it's relative rarity. After listening to it a couple of times, it's a bit catchy in places but the production is fairly thin and the band struggles to establish an identity. The tracks vacillate b/t a more modern mid-90s sound and a late '80s sleaze approach. A bigger production and an overall infusion of energy would have helped this release substantially. Stylewise, they are similar to another fairly obscure band, "Kryton," (that probably didn't help much) and any host of newer indie hard rock bands that play primarily mid-tempo stuff (i.e. Eden's Lie, Speed, Hit 'N Run [from NYC]). Hard for me to come up with a comparison to better known bands (sorry). Overall, although I like it and am glad it's in my collection.
