its third album, .38 Special discovered how to fuse fun-lovin' Southern
rock with a formula that would bring the band commercial attention.
Even though the album failed to put a single into the Top 40, the songs
gather more steam than the group's previous attempts and begin to show
the talents of individual members, turning some of the attention away
from the novelty of sporting two drummers. "Rockin' into the Night" is a
clean-shaven, built-for-radio tune, boosted by Don Barnes and Jeff
Carlisi's indiscrete guitar work, while "Stone Cold Believer" rocks a
little harder with its gear-shifting guitar riff.

TRACKLIST:Artist : Ranveig Johnsen Country : Norway Release : Watch That Girl! Year : 1988 Genre : Hard Rock File Type : mp3 320 Info:
This is good poppy-AOR from Norway with a tight, poppy and sweat
production from Svein Dag Hauge with excellent vocals and great
harmonies. You can also smell a sense of west-coast ala Lava – rhythm of
love album (the production is very similar actually). Frank Adahl of
Edin-Adahl participated in recording background vocals, and sang with
Ranveig a beautiful duo ballad called “Two lives”. Huge keys, great
production,nice chorus,a touch of pop and west-coast.
TRACKLIST:Artist : Golden Resurrection Country : Sweden Release : Glory To My King Year : 2010 Genre : Heavy Metal File Type : mp3 320 Info:
If you are looking for fantastic melodies and hooks non-stop, polished
vocal arrangements and speed, speed and more speed (the tempo here can
border on the relentless) then you will find a home in Golden
Resurrection. Throw in virtuoso guitar work and plenty of incessant
double bass and it all adds up to neo-classical metal paradise.
If
I were to invite comparison, Yngwie Malmsteen and early Narnia, once
more, are the first names to come to mind, although you will also
encounter some symphonic elements along the lines of Divinefire. Fans
of other forms of metal, including melodic metal (Rob Rock), epic metal
(Theocracy) and European power metal (Seventh Avenue), will not feel
left out either. Impellitteri also deserves consideration. I swear
that tracks such as “Glory To My King” and “The Final Day” have a
harpsichord going on in the background, even though one is not mentioned
in the liner notes.

Tommy Heart (vocals) and Chris Lyne (guitar) are back with a brand new
studio album after putting out a live CD, aptly titled “That’s Live”,
last year.
Upon hearing opening cut “First Man On The Moon” one would
think that the gentlemen have simply picked up where their previous
studio offering “Blood Runs Gold” (2007) left off because of the classic
melodic rock (Led Zeppelin, Bad Company) tinged intro but that’s not
exactly the case. No, as the title suggests, “Way Back To The Bone”
offers us the band’s trade mark melodic rock complete with infectious
choruses and driving guitar work. Every now and then they bring out the
acoustic six string but less frequent then on “BRG” and overall this new
platter is heavier.
TRACKLIST:Artist : Glen Stace Country : Canada Release : Buddha Hotel Year : 1991 Genre : Hard Rock File Type : mp3 VBR Info:
This is a true lost Canadian classic. Glen Stace was from the West
and released the album, Buddha Hotel, in 1991. His label at the time
was Bumstead Records and he self produced the album. I grew up in the
Toronto area and remember hearing it on the radio from time to time but
never knew who the artist was. I hummed this chorus for a great many
years. It was my ear worm (a song that sticks in your head). A friend I
met while living in Calgary many years later informed me that the
artist was indeed, Glen Stace.

Metal fickin' on brothers...
Vanadium's
second album, 1983's A Race with the Devil, didn't introduce any
radical new developments into the Italian group's
guitar-and-keyboard-driven heavy metal formula, but it nevertheless
showed a qualitative improvement over its rookie predecessor in every
possible department: songwriting, production, performance, you name it.
In fact, it is arguably the strongest effort of Vanadium's entire career
(1984's Game Over and 1986's Born to Fight are the only possible
challengers), and also marked the reinstatement of band founder,
guitarist Steve Tessarin, who'd been excluded from the first album's
sessions by a mandatory call to military service, and therefore returned
seemingly twice as motivated to leave his mark this second time around.
TRACKLIST:Artist : Pink Cream 69 Country : Germany Release : In10sity [Japan Edition] Year : 2007 Genre : Hard Rock File Type : mp3 VBR Info: For a hard rocking album, this record has some very commercial moments.
Children
Of The Dawn is a stomping hard rocker to get the album off to a flyer. A
pounding rhythm section the driving force behind the song.
No Way
Out isn't as heavy, but the tempo is up another notch, the band turning
in a classic PC69 riff/rocker with a catchy chorus.
The always
enjoyable vocals of David Readman are as brilliant as ever; at times I
can hear a little Jeff Scott Soto rasp in there as well as a little of
the Talisman funk ? especially on the less intense swagger of Crossfire.
I'm
Not Afraid is one of the definite gems of the album. The chorus is
sublime, yet instant and I find myself singing it hours later for no
reason at all.
Funnily enough ? I could be singing that tune or any
number of the albums songs. A New Religion, The Hour Of Freedom and Stop
This Madness all rock along with a good pace and every one of the
choruses is equally as infectious as the each other.
Desert Land is the first sign of a change of pace and it only lasts a minute 30.
Out Of This World heads to a darker place with a less obvious chorus, but it fits the pace of the album well.
It
also kicks off a darker and heavier passage of music featuring It's
Just A State Of Mind and the imposing Wanna Hear You Rock.
The
European bonus track is no album filler either. My Darkest Hour
continues the moodier vibe of the second half of the album and rocks
hard.
The album closes with a lighter moment ? the rock ballad Last Train To Nowhere.

Country : Canada
Release : Road To Damascus
Year : 1992
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 VBR
Info:
Buddha Hotel, the debut album from Glen Stace -- painted the Saskatoon
rocker as Canada's answer to Steve Earle. His sophomore effort finds a
more mature performer beginning to come into his own. Road To Damascus
leans to the dark side. The country influence is still there, but it's
the kind of western feel that evokes a stench of death in the air after a
high noon shoot- out. Before you can peg him as the brooding, demonic
type pictured on the cover, he closes with the rousing
take-life-as-it-comes rocker "Whatever Goes 'Round."
TRACKLIST:Artist : Heathen Country : USA Release : Recovered Year : 2004 Genre : Heavy Metal File Type : mp3 320 Info:
The track listing is roughly divided into 3 parts: There are four
original tracks from the demo Opiate Of The Masses This is a very solid
block of metal with multi-part harmonies, virtuoso solos and solid,
imaginative rhythms. There's an excellent power ballad dedicated to the
memory of a late band member and his wife. Some power ballads are
rightfully criticized as being soppy and sentimental. There's no
questioning the very real sentiments in this song, but it has balls, it
is played with sincerity and may be one of the better ballads you've
heard in years. Then – there are four covers of songs by Thin Lizzy,
Queen, Sweet Savage and Tygers of Pan Tang. There are particularly well
executed, but they're still covers.

Info:
"Love Nest," the first cut on Nikki Sudden's Egyptian Roads, starts
with Sudden's electric guitar playing balls out, in the red zone, a Neil
Young-like scree accompanied by the drum kit and a Hammond B-3. It's an
edifying way to begin a record that for all intents and purposes has
been forgotten by rock & roll -- like most of Sudden's catalog. The
fans, of course, are justifiably rabid: Sudden has assembled one of the
most consistent, enigmatic, and prodigious shelves in rock. Egyptian
Roads was begun in 1986 and actually finished and released in 1997. In
other words, it was forgotten before it was issued -- thank God it was
briefly available again in a limited edition of 500 copies in 2004.
There's a hell of a list of players here: Rowland Howard, Steve Shelley,
Epic Soundtracks, Dave Kusworth, and loads more. The songs, like those
on Red Brocade which followed it by a year (after the death of Sudden's
brother Soundtracks), are among the most refined of Sudden's career. The
country-ish "When Angels Die," with its lovely piano lines and backing
chorus, turn a sad song into something utterly infectious. The spooky
instrumental "Misty Roads" features Howard playing some of his most
shadowy yet seductive slide guitar. The medley of the Stones-like
"Evangeline" with the country-rocker "Silver Dollar" is just amazing.

TRACKLIST:Artist : Whitesnake Country : UK Release : Here I Go Again: The Whitesnake Collection Year : 2002 Genre : Hard Rock File Type : mp3 VBR Info:
2002's two-CD Whitesnake compilation Here I Go Again: The Whitesnake
Collection assembles remastered versions of all three of the band's
biggest albums for Geffen -- 1984's Slide It In, 1987's blockbuster
Whitesnake, and 1989's Slip of the Tongue -- as well as non-album mixes
and B-sides. When vocalist David Coverdale first formed the band,
Whitesnake didn't meet with much success in America; Slide It In changed
that. It had a sleazy charm with killer tracks like the title cut,
"Slow an' Easy," "Spit It Out," and the melodic, explosive "Love Ain't
No Stranger." Whitesnake was a smash, and deservedly so thanks to the
songs Coverdale and guitarist John Sykes wrote; it was more calculated
and slick than Slide It In, but there's no denying the quality of "Here I
Go Again," "Is This Love," or the Led Zeppelin homage/rip-off (you
decide) "Still of the Night." The flaccid radio mix of "Here I Go Again"
is included. The single version of "Give Me All Your Love" isn't as
drastically removed from the original. The outtakes "You're Gonna Break
My Heart Again," "Looking for Love," and "Sweet Lady Luck" appeared on
1994's Greatest Whitesnake. "Need Your Love So Bad," a Little Willie
John cover, was a B-side with just Coverdale and keyboardist Bill Cuomo.
Slip of the Tongue was largely a disaster. Since Adrian Vandenberg had
suffered from a bizarre injury, hired gun Steve Vai played all the
guitar parts and his flashy, technically gifted style overpowered the
formula. The re-recording of "Fool for Your Loving" is a catchy
exception. "The Deeper the Love" and "Judgement Day" are OK, but they
ultimately suffer from trying to re-create Whitesnake. "Sailing Ships"
does have a sincere majesty. For convenience and completeness, Here I Go
Again: The Whitesnake Collection is a worthwhile set.

Hatchet's debut 2008 album, Awaiting Evil, is where the band has vowed
to wage war on false metal, sparing none who dare to oppose them. When
Hatchet emerged, the Bay area scene was not very welcoming to their
trash sound. Thrash had become a forgotten musical form in the bay area.
Driven and determined, they adopted the D.I.Y. ethic reminiscent of the
punk rock style common in the early 80's. Hatchet played anywhere and
everywhere they could - bars, house parties, local venues like the Pound
SF, Balazo Gallery, 924 Gilman Street, and various warehouses located
in desolate, crime ridden areas of Oakland, California.

TRACKLIST:Artist : ZZ Top Country : USA Release : Deguello [Remastered] Year : 1979 Genre : Hard Rock File Type : mp3 320 Info:
ZZ Top returned after an extended layoff in late 1979 with Deguello,
their best album since 1973's Tres Hombres. During their time off, ZZ
Top didn't change much -- hell, their sound never really changed during
their entire career -- but it did harden, in a way. The grooves became
harder, sleeker, and their off-kilter sensibility and humor began to
dominate, as "Cheap Sunglasses" and "Fool for Your Stockings"
illustrate. Ironically, this, their wildest album lyrically, doesn't
have the unhinged rawness of their early blooze rockers, but the
streamlined production makes it feel sleazier all the same, since its
slickness lets the perversity slide forth. And, forget not, the trio is
in fine shape here, knocking out a great set of rockers and sounding
stylish all the time. Undoubtedly one of their strong suits.

TRACKLIST:Artist : Kreator Country : Germany Release : Past Life Trauma Year : 2000 Genre : Heavy Metal File Type : mp3 320 Info:
Of all the underground European thrash outfits who helped pioneer
death metal during the '80s -- bands like Hellhammer, Sodom,
Destruction, and Bathory -- Kreator arguably holds up the best over time
(with the possible exception of Celtic Frost). Where many of their
peers made an impression solely through manic intensity, Kreator became
increasingly able to bolster their harsh fury with progressive
compositions and tight, technically accomplished musicianship. The
band's most influential period, 1985-1992, is captured on Past Life
Trauma, a fan-selected, 18-track best-of that features two rarities and
two previously unreleased tracks. Featuring most of Kreator's best
material from the '80s and early '90s, it's the perfect introduction to
the influential thrashers' output, and it's been digitally remastered to
boot.
TRACKLIST:Artist : Circus Of Power Country : USA Release : Still Alive Year : 1989 Genre : Hard Rock File Type : mp3 192 Info: "Still
Alive" is a rowdy and raunchy live EP recorded in Detroit in front of
what sounds like a bar full of half drunken bikers. Could be the case as
'biker rock' is how I would best describe the music that Circus of
Power cranks out. They fall somewhere between the punky attitude of
early Guns n Roses and the blues based hard rock of bands like Zeppelin
and Aerosmith. The disc starts off with a cover of Rick Derringer's
"Still Alive" and then unleashes five heavy, grungy originals. "White
Trash Queen" reminds me of Faster Pussycat's "Bathroom Wall", although
the vocal melodies and hooks are really not similar. Some of the in
between song edits are a bit annoying as it obvious some of the stage
banter was cut out. Overall, however, a nice live EP, that would have
been better had it been a bit longer. This disc has been out of print
for years.
