Artist : La Tulipe Noire
Country : Greece
Release : In The Gates Of Dream
Year : 1997
Genre : Hard Rock Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

If Aphrodite's Child was Greece's main prog rock calling card in the '70s, 25 years later La Tulipe Noire neglected to take note, deciding instead to walk in the footsteps of the British stars of neo-prog. Fronted by a gifted female vocalist (Ima), the group was first hailed or dismissed as a Marillion clone (depending on the reviewer's views on the subject of imitation), but with time the songs developed a firmer identity, although still faithfully abiding the genre's rules.
La Tulipe Noire formed in the mid-'90s under the guidance of a songwriter duo: keyboardist Alix and bassist Hyde. They took the name of the group from the French writer Alexandre Dumas, Sr.'s 1850 novel. It means "The Black Tulip," the Holy Grail of botanists (obtaining a true black color seems to be impossible), but Dumas' story dealt more with deception and conspiracy than crossbreeding tips, reflecting La Tulipe Noire's taste for stories of love lost and urban mal de vivre.

Artist : La Tulipe Noire
Country : Greece
Release : Nostimon Hemar
Year : 2006
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

LA TULIPE NOIRE (Black Tulip) hails from Greece, having already grown out of that country's small local progressive garden. The band's discography includes four full-length albums to date, namely "In the Gates of Dream" (1996), "Shattered Images" (1999), "Faded Leaves" (2002) and "Nostimon Hemar" (2006, review below:-). Apart from these two, I am acquainted with their second CD: it was reissued in Russia by MALS. Cold about it, as it's heavily derivative.
"Nostimon Hemar" is a concept album; the lyrics are based on Homer's ageless poem "The Odyssey", as well as some recent writings retelling the adventures of the eponymous Greek hero as if through the prism of a contemporary world with all its problems.

Artist : La Tulipe Noire
Country : Greece
Release : Shattered Image
Year : 2000
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

After APHRODITE’S CHILD, VANGELIS and SOCRATES during the Seventies, Greece is once again waking up to Progressive rock. The leading band of this new generation, LA TULIPE NOIRE is a classically composed quintet. This talented line-up performs a refined and quiet Progressive rock that develops baroque and solemn melodies. The Singer IMA’s clear and pure vocals can remind of that of Virginia ASTLEY. S. KONTAKIS’s guitar sounds like David GILMOUR’s whereas ALIX’s keyboards weave quiet layers that marvellously complete precious and melancholic themes. As for the rhythm section, assured by drummer Nick KASSAVETIS and bassist HYDE, it is definitely solid. Leaving somehow aside the MARILLION inherited influences, "Shattered Image" (1999) is able to develop an original sound. Quickly pick this rare flower, it will nicely decorate your secret garden devoted to Progressive rock...
