UK-based melodic rockers Lionsheart came roaring back in 2004 after a six year absence with Abyss, their fourth studio album. At this point, the only consistent band member is vocalist Steve Grimmett (of Grim Reaper and Onslaught fame), but honestly that’s all you really need.
Musically, Abyss is a bit of a departure from the early Lionsheart albums. It’s still very much a melodic hard rock album, but the Whitsenake vibe is dialed way back. It sounds a bit like Pretty Maids or even Saxon back in their melodic rock days. It’s very solid stuff, even if it doesn’t quite jump out at you the way the first couple of albums did. And of course Grimmett sounds great here. He never turns in a bad performance, and he’s really well suited for this kind of melodic rock.

Their third effort Under Fire took three years to emerge as legal battles with its record company waged on. Finally released in 1998, the album featured Grimmett and Tyketto guitarist Brooke St. James, Graham Collett and O'Brien. The sales were poor. At this time, Lionsheart folded and Grimmett founded Pride. In late 2000, Grimmett unveiled Seven Deadly Sins. Joining him on this venture was Collett, Eddie Marsh on bass and Peter Newdeck on drums.
