Artist : ZZ Top
Country : USA
Release : Tejas [Remastered]
Year : 1976
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Tejas, released originally on vinyl in 1976 or 77 is ZZTop's best album. It is the one that established them as musicians and not just three guys trying to blow up amps... although their simultaneous detonation of "Backdoor Love Affair" on the live size of Fandango is among my top 2 or 3 openings in all of rock and roll. Tejas was a brilliant, dry, gritty album with some great hits - "It's Only Love" (does anyone besides me get flashbacks to "Brown Sugar" listening to this?), "Driving While Blind"... one of the best singalongs ever "She's a Heartbreaker", and the tight chording on "Pan Am Highway Blues". Unfortunately, Bill Ham remixed the first six ZZ Top albums for CD before anyone caught on that great things don't need to be re-invented. The CD version of Tejas is the worst CD re-mix ever, out of over 600 in my collection. It basically sounds as if the whole album has been recut with a drum machine (a bad one too) and fed through an echo box

Artist : ZZ Top
Country : USA
Release : Rio Grande Mud [Remastered]
Year : 1972
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Rio Grande Mud ranks right up there with Tres Hombres and Deguello as ZZ Top's finest work. Their debut was good, but Rio Grande Mud is many times better. It rocks harder and the songs are better. Billy Gibbons' guitar smokes throughout the album! The little band from Texas really began to hit their peak with this album. This is the way blues rock is supposed to be played. However, the follow up to this record, Tres Hombres, is even better.
This great album deserves a better CD though. It was remixed with heavy echo and synthesized drums. It really needs a new CD with the mix from the original vinyl record. The music deserves 5 stars, but the CD does not.

Artist : ZZ Top
Country : USA
Release : Fandango! [Remastered & Expanded]
Year : 1975
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

One of the world's greatest rock 'n' roll bands ever to strut the 50 States, these sharp-dressed Texas titans-Billy F. Gibbons, Frank Beard, and Dusty Hill-are a righteously hell rain' power trio boasting a 30-plus year hit-making legacy, both in the studio and at concert arenas. With their revved up blues 'n' boogie, they always make the most of their Texas birthright with with a distinctive sound that shakes up rock, blues, soul, garage-funk, Americana, and more. Nowhere is their force of nature musicianship better displayed than on these two album classics, revved up wtih red-hot bonus rarities. "You know what I'm talkin' about...an how how how how."

Artist : ZZ Top
Country : USA
Release : Velcro Fly
Year : 1986
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

The only rock & roll group that's out there with its original members still aboard after three decades (an anniversary celebrated on 1999's XXX), ZZ Top play music that is always instantly recognizable, eminently powerful, profoundly soulful, and 100-percent American in derivation. They have continued to support the blues through various means, perhaps most visibly when they were given a piece of wood from Muddy Waters' shack in Clarksdale, MS.

Artist : ZZ Top
Country : USA
Release : Rough Boy
Year : 1986
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

This sturdy American blues-rock trio from Texas consists of Billy Gibbons (guitar), Dusty Hill (bass), and Frank Beard (drums). They were formed in 1970 in and around Houston from rival bands the Moving Sidewalks (Gibbons) and American Blues (Hill and Beard). Their first two albums reflected the strong blues roots and Texas humor of the band. Their third album (Tres Hombres) gained them national attention with the hit "La Grange," a signature riff tune to this day, based on John Lee Hooker's "Boogie Chillen." Their success continued unabated throughout the '70s, culminating with the year-and-a-half-long Worldwide Texas Tour.

Artist : ZZ Top
Country : USA
Release : Afterburner [Remastered]
Year : 1985
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

'Sleeping Bag' sets the tone for the rest of the album. The first thing that you'll notice is that the drums are completely mechanical, and that the bass never quite seems to kick in. Is it hidden behind something, or is it just not there? You won't be figuring this out for the whole of the disc, but it doesn't really matter, because its sonic area is obliterated by Dusty Hill's keyboards whether it's there or not. The synths are all over this disc. As 'Sleeping Bag' continues, Gibbons' guitar comes in, and starts to drown out the keyboards a little too. If I had any major complaint about this album, it's that it is simply too much most of the time - it's loud, and everything seems sort of piled on top of everything else. Whether everything works is a different story, but there's almost no interplay with the band here. The keyboards have been laid on top of Frank Beard's programmed drums, and Gibbons seems to have come in and soloed over it all.

Artist : ZZ Top
Country : USA
Release : Deguello [Remastered]
Year : 1979
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

ZZ Top returned after an extended layoff in late 1979 with Deguello, their best album since 1973's Tres Hombres. During their time off, ZZ Top didn't change much -- hell, their sound never really changed during their entire career -- but it did harden, in a way. The grooves became harder, sleeker, and their off-kilter sensibility and humor began to dominate, as "Cheap Sunglasses" and "Fool for Your Stockings" illustrate. Ironically, this, their wildest album lyrically, doesn't have the unhinged rawness of their early blooze rockers, but the streamlined production makes it feel sleazier all the same, since its slickness lets the perversity slide forth. And, forget not, the trio is in fine shape here, knocking out a great set of rockers and sounding stylish all the time. Undoubtedly one of their strong suits.

As Time Goes By (Hidden Track)
Sanctify (Bonus Track)

Artist : ZZ Top
Country : USA
Release : Mescalero
Year : 2003
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

The last few albums ZZ Top released were all going back to the old sound but with a dirtier, fuzzed make over. There were always some good tracks and some ordinary ZZ Top numbers which if more focused, could've been better. However, since the band's been using the same formula and same producer from album one, they never pushed further or focused to make an entire album worthy of comparing to their peak efforts. On 'Mescalero the dirty sound and the rough blues vocals are there, and they still got the groove and the heart to do an instantly memorable record.

Country : USA
Release : The Best Blues & Ballads
Year : 2004
Genre : Hard Rock
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

The only rock & roll group that's out there with its original members still aboard after three decades (an anniversary celebrated on 1999's XXX), ZZ Top play music that is always instantly recognizable, eminently powerful, profoundly soulful, and 100-percent American in derivation. They have continued to support the blues through various means, perhaps most visibly when they were given a piece of wood from Muddy Waters' shack in Clarksdale, MS. The group members had it made into a guitar, dubbed the "Muddywood," then sent it out on tour to raise money for the Delta Blues Museum. ZZ Top's support and link to the blues remains as rock solid as the music they play.
