After Leif Edling dissolved the band Nemesis, he started his own band under the name Candlemass (apossiblydeliberatemisspelling of Candlemas). The first Candlemass album was Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, released in 1986 and now considered a milestone in the Doom metal scene.
